Die 70er Jahre sind ein Jahrzehnt, in dem aus Deutschland wichtige Impulse für die Entwicklung der Electronic- und Dance-Musik kamen. Dafür sprechen auch die internationalen Charterfolge vieler deutscher Singles und Alben in Musikmärkten wie den USA, Großbritannien oder Japan.
In der Sendung stellen wir die zehn erfolgreichsten Musiker der Dekade vor. Darunter Elektropioniere wie Kraftwerk oder Tangerine Dream, Discogrößen wie Silver Convention und die in München von Giorgio Moroder produzierte Donna Summer.

Die Münchner Sängerin Linda Uebelherr-Thompson begann ihre Karriere in den 70ern. Sie war nicht nur Mitglied der Les Humphries Singers, sondern gehörte auch bis 1976 zum Erfolgs-Trio Silver Convention.
Die Les Humphries Singers, ein internationaler Gospelpopchor mit Sitz in Hamburg, hatten in Europa eine große Fanbasis. Linda Uebelherr-Thompson tourte mit den Sängern zwei Jahre durch den Kontinent. Dann entdeckte sie der Münchner Produzenten Michael Kunze. Mit seinen Kompositionen für das Disco-Trio Silver Convention erreichte die Sängerin Mitte des Jahrzehnts den Höhepunkt ihres Erfolges: „Fly, Robin, Fly“ war 1975 der erste Hit einer deutschen Gruppe, der auf Platz 1 der amerikanischen Charts landete.

Volkmar Kramarz ist der Pop-Experte von Deutsche Beats. Der Bonner Musikwissenschaftler beschäftigt sich seit mehr als 40 Jahren mit Rock- und Popmusik.
Seit 2001 lehrt er in seiner Heimatstadt an der Universität Bonn Musikwissenschaft und „Soundstudies“. Außerdem hat er verschiedene Musikbücher verfasst (darunter „Die Pop Formeln“, „Die E-Gitarre“ und „Die HipHop Formeln“). Seine große Leidenschaft gehört der Gitarre: In seiner Freizeit spielt er in mehreren Rockbands.

This is reflected in German successes in international charts in major music markets like Britain, the US and Japan. In today’s edition German Beats presents the ten most successful German acts of the decade.
Electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream compete with disco greats like Silver Convention and Munich-produced Donna Summer for the top spot.

Munich singer Linda Uebelherr-Thompson began her career in the 70s. She was not only a member of the Les Humphries Singers, but also part of the disco trio Silver Convention.
The Les Humphries Singers were a Hamburg-based gospel pop choir that enjoyed immense popularity in the seventies. Linda Uebelherr-Thompson was one of the company of singers who toured constantly for two years. She was then discovered by Munich producer Michael Kunze for his disco trio Silver Convention. Together they scored a string of hits. Fly, Robin, Fly became the first single by a German act to reach number one in the US.

Volkmar Kramarz is our resident expert on German Beats. The musicologist from Bonn has been analyzing rock and pop for forty years.
In 2001 he took up a teaching post at the University of Bonn. He is the author of numerous works on rock, pop, hip hop and the electric guitar. He is also a member of various music groups.
